As part of our Online Services, we provide consultancy for Indian immigration law, including full support and assistance for anyone required to register in India as part of our NRI Support and Corporate Practice work.
Every foreigner, including People of Indian Origin (PIO), visiting India on a long-term visa (more than 180 days) — whether for study, employment, business, research, or missionary purposes — must register with the relevant Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) within 14 days of first arrival, regardless of how long they intend to stay. Pakistani nationals must register within 24 hours, and Afghan nationals within 14 days; Pakistani nationals report to the Special Branch, Police Bhawan, Asaf Ali Road, Delhi.
Beyond the statutory requirement, foreigner registration is also needed for visa extension, change of visa type, visa re-issuance, work permits, and special entry to certain parts of India.
FRRO offices are located in New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, and Amritsar; in smaller cities and towns, the local police headquarters typically handles this function.
We're based in New Delhi and prepare documents and assist foreigners and People of Indian Origin through the registration process. The applicant must be physically present to complete registration formalities at the FRRO office or local police headquarters in their place of residence.
